Character Word for October is Responsibility


Jostens will be here today, Friday, Oct. 18 to meet with the Seniors during Indian Minutes.


NHS and FBLA students, need to sign up to go to the Corn Maze on Sunday, October27th.  Sign up sheets are by the cafeteria and Mrs. Winders' room.  The cost is $11.


Any Sophomore that did not get a packet from Jostens yesterday may stop by the office and get it.


Attention Juniors and Seniors who are wanting to enroll in dual credit classes for next semester.  Please see Mrs. Utterback to get your dual credit packet and return with your selections on or by Friday November 1.  


Seniors, thinking about attending WashU in St. Louis, but worried about the costs---Beginning next fall, any admitted undergraduate student from Missouri or southern Illinois who is Pell-eligible or with a family income of less than $75,000 will be able to attend Washington University free of charge. 


Seniors-I have placed two new National (non-local) scholarship opportunities on the webpage.  Each year thousands of scholarship dollars go unclaimed, so take a minute to look at these and then if you qualify, APPLY. 


The Van-Far FFA will be traveling to Costa Rica and Panama in the Summer of 2021. This trip is for students in graduating classes of 2021-2025. You must be enrolled in, or set to enroll in an agriculture course to be eligible to attend. There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:30 in Mr. Stuedle's Room. If you are interested in attending, please see Mr. Stuedle for more details.


Women's Basic Self Defense Class, Saturday October 26th, 1-3pm at the Y.  Open to all females 15 years and older.  $10.00 Y member cost; $15.00 non-member cost. Registration through October 26th.  Limited to 25 participants in the class.  Stop by or call the Y to register.  James Smith, Centralia, 5th degree black belt, will be teaching the class.


The YMCA is looking for referees for youth basketball K-6th grade games to be held on Saturdays beginning November 9th.  Games will begin on or before 9am each Saturday (except Thanksgiving weekend) and will end in mid-December.  Must be at least 16 years old and have basketball knowledge and experience.   Stop by or call the Y and ask for Debbie for more information. 


Boosters will be sponsoring a high school dance on October 25th with Community R-6 immediately following the high school football game until 11:30 p.m. in the high school gym.  You must be in good standing to attend.  If you wish to bring a guest that does not attend Van-Far, all request forms must be turned in by Monday, October 21st.  ALL outstanding fees and bills (lunch bills, MACC enrollment fees, etc.) MUST be paid in full to attend the dance.  


Red Ribbon Week is going to be celebrated October 28-November 1.  Activities will be announced next week and it's hosted by HS Stuco, FCCLA, and Mrs. Utterback.  


Seniors the Belcher Scholarship has been uploaded to the school webpage.  This application is due November 18 to the Counselor's office, and will then be submitted to the Van-Far School Board at the November meeting.  The Van-Far School Board will then nominate one senior to represent Van- Far and Region 17.  


NJHS is selling Pumpkins for Patients for the month of October.  The proceeds will go to Shriners Hospital which helps children with various diseases.  


NHS students and Mrs. Winders are looking for pictures of veterans for a powerpoint to be shown at our upcoming Veteran's Day assembly.  If you have a picture of a family member who served our country and you would like to add to this powerpoint, please either bring it to Mrs. Winders or email it to her.  The deadline for these pictures is October 31st.  We would love to include your photos! 


Jostens will be here on Friday, October 25 from 2:45 to 6:00 pm to take orders for Sophomores and Seniors. 


CW's will be here on October 25th from 2:45 to 6:00 PM to take Letterman jacket orders. The order forms are now available at the office on the ledge.

V Football away at Montgomery Co. at 7:00 pm. Team bus leaves at 4:30.  Cheer bus leaves at 5:15.


Saturday, October 19

Cross Country away at EMO Conference at Bowling Green at TBA. Bus leaves at 8:45.

Marching  Band away to Truman State University Homecoming at TBA. Bus leaves at 6:00.
